Frequently asked questions

What is Trinity’s Giving Day?

Trinity’s Giving Day is a special 36-hour event, taking place on the 11th and 12th of June 2025, where alumni, students, Fellows, staff, and friends of the College come together to support our Trinity community. It is an opportunity to give back, support our current students, and ensure that future generations can continue to thrive in College.

Thanks to matched funding and special challenges, Giving Day allows us to be more ambitious than ever about what we can achieve as a community. Every donation, large or small, brings us closer to our goals, helping us reach key milestones together.

The past two Giving Days have shown just how much of a difference your support can make. Together, we have funded bursaries, inaugurated new PhD studentships, and enriched College life in ways that would not have been possible without your generosity. This year, we hope to build on that and make an even greater impact.

Why should I give?

Trinity College has a proud tradition of philanthropy. The generosity of our alumni and friends of the College has allowed us to become one of the most uniformly generous colleges across Oxbridge. Today, we can offer an increasing number of bursaries and studentships at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. With the rising cost of higher education, this support is more essential than ever to ensure that we continue to attract the brightest minds to Trinity, regardless of background, while also providing the resources students need to thrive once they are here.

Donations enhance every aspect of College life, from research and teaching to student welfare initiatives and extracurricular activities, to the preservation of our historic spaces and the development of new facilities. Every gift strengthens what Trinity can offer its students, ensuring that we remain a place where excellence, opportunity, and community go hand in hand. Gifts to Trinity are not used to meet the bottom line; they create opportunities for us to invest in new, innovative, and interesting things, alongside funding generous support to students across the University.

How can I get involved?

Make a gift! Donations can be made online via our secure platform, by telephone, or by post. Please read below for further information about making a gift.

Spread the word! Help us inspire others by sharing your Trinity story and encouraging friends and peers to give. Please share about Trinity’s Giving Day on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or X, and make sure to tag us!

Take part in challenges! Throughout Giving Day, we will be running matching gift challenges and participation milestones, ensuring that your contribution has the greatest possible impact.

What difference will my donation make?

The generosity of our community, no matter the amount given, has a profound and lasting impact. Many of our students, Fellows, and research initiatives benefit directly from philanthropic support.

As an example:

  • A single gift could support a student bursary, helping a talented student meet the costs of their education.
  • Collective donations helping us unlock matched gifts could fund vital research through PhD studentships.
  • Support for our General Purposes Fund enhances the college experience, from services and grants for students to sporting and cultural activities. In the past, this fund has funded post-doctoral research grants, support for disabled students in College thanks to new smart technology, summer internships, conservation of library collections, and more.

How can I make my gift?

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to participate in Giving Day, and gifts can be made in a variety of ways:

  • Online: through our Giving Day platform – www.givingday.trin.cam.ac.uk
  • By phone (during office hours): +44 (0)1223 761527
  • By post: donation form – Gifts must be received by the end of 30 June to count. They can be posted to the Alumni Relations and Development Office, Trinity College, Cambridge, CB2 1TQ. Cheques should be made out to "Trinity College".

If you give via post, please make sure to inform us as soon as you can for your gift to be counted for Giving Day matched funding.

Can I make a gift to the Giving Day before 11 June?

Yes! We know that all donors’ schedules may not allow them to participate during the Giving event itself. If you would like to make an early gift to Trinity College’s Giving Day, the best way to do this is via the Giving Day platform.

If you cannot give online, you can still give early by post (see above). Please be sure to indicate that your gift should support the Giving Day by writing ‘Giving Day’ on a note enclosed with your cheque or on the donation form.
